To Dads From Dads
Take care of your physical health. Sneaking
in a workout can keep your stress levels down and your energy up. And,
it can help you sleep better when you do have a minute to sleep, that is.
Try to help your wife follow this advice as well. She might have been
on bed rest, and giving birth to twins can take its toll on a woman`s
body. A family stroll with the double stroller might benefit everyone.
Get some support. Even the toughest dads can admit it; being
a new parent is rough. Get support at your comfort level. Some dads toss
themselves into parenting support groups others recoil at the thought.
Consider checking out the Internet for fathers of twins message boards
and mailing lists; you can find advice and understanding while remaining
anonymous. Get to know other dads of twins. Even if you aren`t comfortable
sharing your feelings the camaraderie helps.
Make time for your marriage. OK, at first, time might be
the moment you hand off the hungry twin to your wife while you get the
stinky diaper twin. But even a quick kiss or a loving look at this point
can help you through the worst of the stressful times. Soon, the kids
will be older and you can actually find real time together.
Hang in there. Most dads of multiples agree that it gets
easier as twins grow up. “It gets better and it always changes,”
says Joe, father of twins. “So when you think it`s bad, it gets
better. The joy is watching them grow up.”
